The Museum of Art – DeLand will present An Evening of Jazz and Multicolored Memories, A Performance by Dr. Kitty Oliver on Friday, March 1, on stage at the museum’s 600 N. Woodland Blvd. location.
The doors open at 5 p.m. for a reception and to view the art exhibit “African American Art: We Too Dream America” prior to the performance, which will begin at 6 p.m.
“It is a professional cabaret performance of inspirational jazz vocals and literary stories tracing the common journey of native-born Americans and immigrants as they adapt to life in a diverse society and social change on a global scale,” said Pam Coffman, curator of education at the museum.
A native Floridian, Oliver is a former professor and founder of “Race and Change,” an archive of cross-cultural race and ethnic relations given through oral histories. She is a sought-after performer with insights and research that have been featured in books, public television and webcast radio productions.
“Oliver will share her personal experiences moving from segregation to integration to multicultural diversity in the international arena, drawing on poignant, humorous, revealing reflections on race relations in a hopeful, healing way,” said Coffman.
This program is family-friendly.
Guests will have the opportunity to visit with Oliver following her performance.
